How to rip DVDs on OS X and get movies onto your Mac media server?

Setting up a Mac as your media server involves making it easy to access your media. For most of us, media includes movies and TV shows. And many of us have collected our favorites on DVDs over the years. But thanks to copy protection and encryption on commercially produced DVDs Discs, this isn't just as easy as popping them in and hitting an "Import DVD" button in iTunes. Let's look at how to get video from the DVD to your Mac OS X in a way that will make it much more convenient for you to access next time.

Rip DVD on Mac OS X (El Capitan included)

By far, my favorite tool for converting video is an open source software application called Pavtube BDMagic for Mac. Pavtube BDMagic for Mac from Pavtube Studio is a professional Mac DVD ripper. It's a one stop application that lets you rip content from your DVDs, edit what's been ripped and sync it using iTunes. It has a lot of features like adjusting video bitrate/codec, trimming/cropping video, adjust display aspect ratio, deinterlacing video, add srt subtitle, etc and there's even a free trial version you can download (you can rip five DVDs before it demands a registration code).

Free download and install:

Other Download:
- Pavtube old official address: http://www.pavtube.cn/blu-ray-ripper-mac/
- Cnet Download: http://download.cnet.com/Pavtube-BDMagic/3000-7970_4-76177782.html

Step 1. Load DVD movie

Click “File” in top left corner and follow “Load from disc” to load the DVD movie to DVD Ripper on Mac OS X. It can automatically choose the main title to convert.

Step 2: Choose output format

Here, you can simply choose H.264 MP4 which can be supported by iTunes, iPhone, Apple TV, QuickTime, iPad Pro. Or you also can choose some optimized preset in corresponding profile like “iPhone”, “iPad”.

Step 3: Start rip DVD on OS X

Hit “Convert” button in bottom right corner to start ripping DVD on Mac OS X. When the process is completed, open output folder and find the ripped DVD file.

Now, you can set up your Mac as a media server then stream the media from your Mac to any other media receiver with Plex.
